Blood of Wessex traces one family line across more than fifteen centuries of English history, beginning with Cerdic, founder of the Kingdom of Wessex, and following his descendants through kings, earls, knights, soldiers, tradesmen and ordinary families to the present day.

Along the way are some of the most recognisable figures of Anglo-Saxon England, including Egbert, Alfred the Great, Edward the Elder and Æthelstan, alongside generations whose names rarely appear in history books but whose lives were equally important to the survival of the family line.

From Wessex and Winchester to Northumbria, Bamburgh and Dunbar, the story moves through war, conquest, changing kingdoms and the eventual creation of England itself.

This is not simply a history of kings. It is the story of a direct family line spanning 52 generations — from Cerdic to the current day Cooper family.
