When a miniature portrait vanishes from a locked cabinet in Chelsea, private investigator Emily Goodhope and her young assistant, Daisy Derwent, discover that a fragment of an old map was hidden behind it.

 

Their search leads them to Willow Hall, a secluded country house with a sealed west wing, an overgrown maze and the forgotten work of children’s illustrator Dorothy Penn.
